O Selenči
The settlement
Selenca is spreading on 291ha, on which are placed 1224 houses with 1320 families living in them. Selenca is a real slovakian village. The statistics from 1991 say that the 93% of people living in Selenca were the Slovaks.
People in Selenca pay a big attention to the enviroment. There are a lot of trees, fruit-trees,spruces... The most of streets have the gutters and everybody takes care of the aesthetic outlook of their houses and gardens.
Population
An ongoing of the number of people living in Selenca goes back in 1869,when was the first counting of population made by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Even in the era of turkish colonisation,in 1590, Selenca is mentioned under the name Selence with the note that there were only 26 houses. In 1778 here already lived 160 families. In the first decades after arrival from Slovakia there were many diseases and years of hunger... The mortality was extremely high,but also the natality. In the 19th century annualy were born 120-150 children,but 100-200 people also died in one year.
