Football Club - Krivan

They played in Turcan’s valley behind town. Selenca’s boys, carried on wings of their fellow townsmen, weren’t embarrassed. Score was 1:1. And the first goal was scored, unsurprisingly, by Jan Valent. Our “uncle Janko” also remembers, that the main obstacle for starting a game was goalkeeper’s hat. It disappeared and the game couldn’t start before they found it.

Right after the clubs were formed first official match was played, in September of year 1968. Selenča’s rival was TTC “Partizan” from Ratkovo. Result of the match wasn’t pleasant for people from Selenča. They lost 5:3, and it was expected. Except for Valent, who managed to defeat all of three opponents, people of Selenca still didn’t have enough force. Besides Valent, there were Jan Grna and Jozef Trusina. First match took place in hall of primary school “Jan Kollar”. People of Selenca had just one table for table tennis and few rackets in their possession. Chess Club Selenca

Chess was brought to Selenca, as well as other sports, by young people, precisely students, or graduated students who came home after finishing their education.

Who was the first one that moved “wooden dolls across white and black field“remains unknown. We can only state, that bigger amount of activities related to chess, started in Cultural and Educational Society- Jan Kollar and the oldest members of theater can confirm that. During rehearsals, amateur actors amused themselves by playing chess, cards, etc. It has to be said that chess is very interesting and tempting game, which offers indefinite amount of combinations and simply mesmerizes players. It is impossible to have two identical matches and that was exact impulse which tempted activists.

Hunter’s Society in Selenca - Jarabica

People of Selenca took the hunting oath for the first time in year 1901, when Hunter’s Society was established. It was official establishing of society and its founders and first members were Jan Javornik, Tomas Medved, Michal Medved, Jan Varga, Jan Ober, Karol Stukavsky, Tomas Krajcik, and Karol Hyl. Facts about, where the first members were employed and what was their calling, we do not have, but they surely had something in common, one thread that bound them together, and that was a love for nature and passion for hunting.
